The city of Jean-Rabel is home to many farmers, who are among the most disadvantaged in the area. After the earthquake in Port-au-Prince, many of them took in displaced persons from the capital (an average of three people). To provide for everyone, farmers had to draw on their resources (food and money). The price of seeds had increased by more than 30% on the local market, so many could no longer afford to purchase them. With the assistance of CDC Tiers Monde, ID provided 26 tonnes of seeds at no cost to 1400 farmers in the area.
